Meaning of Baptism Baptism is a gift of God’s grace, a visible sign of the invisible work God is doing in our lives. Through water and the Holy Spirit, God marks us as His own and welcomes us into the family of faith. In the Global Methodist tradition, baptism is not just a symbol of what we have done, but a means of grace — a holy moment where God is at work before we are fully aware of it, drawing us toward new life in Christ.

How to Know You are Ready You are ready for baptism when you sense God drawing you closer to Him and you desire to follow Jesus. You do not need to have everything figured out — baptism is not a graduation ceremony but the beginning of a lifelong journey of grace. Whether you are a child or an adult, readiness is marked by an openness to God, a willingness to trust Jesus, and a desire to grow in faith within the community of the church.

Should I Get Rebaptized? In the Global Methodist tradition, baptism is received only once, because it is God who acts first and His grace is not undone by our failures. If you were baptized previously — even as an infant — that baptism is still valid. However, if you feel the need to publicly affirm your faith after a season of renewal, we encourage a service of reaffirmation of baptism, where you can celebrate what God is doing now without repeating what He has already faithfully done.
